More than 12 houses were burnt down in a fire caused by sparks from a stove on Thursday in Maharajpur area of Kanpur. People nearby tried to extinguish the fire themselves but two people got burnt in the process. The burnt people were sent to the hospital for treatment. However, after three hours of hard work the fire could be controlled. However, by then the household items and cash kept in a dozen houses were burnt to ashes.
Food was being cooked in the hut-like house of Raju, resident of Majra Bahadurkheda village of Domanpur Gram Panchayat of Maharajpur on Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, Raju’s house caught fire due to the spark coming from the stove. The people of the house saved their lives by running outside. Meanwhile, the flames engulfed the houses of Jagdish Nishad, Baburam Nishad, Tanna alias Rampratap Nishad, Ramswaroop Nishad, Shankar Nishad, Ramraj Nishad, Vijaypal Nishad, Shriram Nishad living nearby.
People nearby tried to control him. However, during this time Jagdish and Raju got burnt. Meanwhile, five fire tenders reached the spot and brought the fire under control after about three hours of effort. All the items kept in this house were burnt to ashes in the fire. According to the villagers, there has been a loss of about one million rupees due to the fire. Narwal SDM Rishabh Verma reached the spot after about three hours, consoled the victim’s families and made immediate arrangements for food and drink. Also, instructions were given to the Consolidation Officer to investigate the land for building a house.
